Wrapped Rope Rainbow Pendant

If you follow recent trends in decor, you may have noticed that wrapped rope rainbows are super popular right now. Why allow your walls to have all the fun? Make this super cute homemade rainbow pendant so you can enjoy it all day long around your neck!

Homemade Rainbow PendantSupplies needed to make a homemade rainbow rope pendant:

  • Various Embroidery Floss Colors
  • Darice Ivory Cotton Rope
  • 20 Gauge Copper Craft Wire
  • Suede Necklace
  • Jump Ring
  • AdTech 2 Temp GlueGun

Homemade Rainbow PendantTo begin your homemade rainbow pendant, cut four 6″ strips of the rope. This gives you a little bit of extra room to work with the embroidery floss and copper wire. We’ll be trimming the excess near the end of the project.

Homemade Rainbow PendantCut a 6″ section from the copper wire. Holding both the wire and rope together, begin wrapping the first embroidery floss color down the re-enforced rope section. Go slow with this process so that the wrapped floss looks uniform and neat.

Homemade Rainbow PendantRepeat the previous step with all four sections of rope. Notice how I added a small loop to the copper wire on the final section of rope. This is what we’ll use to attach the wrapped rope rainbow pendant to the suede necklace.

Homemade Rainbow PendantBend the rope sections to form the shape of a rainbow. You may need to add or remove the embroidery floss for certain colors to make sure everything lines up. Once you’re happy with the look, apply a thin line of hot glue to the inside of the outermost row and press into the next color row. You’re going to want to only apply the bare minimum of hot glue and try to keep the glue line toward the back. It’s ok if the glue seeps out a bit on the back of the pendant but you definitely don’t want to see the glue on the front!

Homemade Rainbow PendantNow that the rainbow has been assembled, take a pair of wire cutters and remove the excess pieces of copper wire.

Homemade Rainbow PendantLevel out the rope with a pair of sharp scissors and then use your fingers to fray the ends.

Homemade Rainbow PendantAttach the jump ring to the copper hoop and secure on suede necklace.

Homemade Rainbow PendantI absolutely love how bold and fun this homemade rainbow rope pendant is! It’s the perfect accessory to wear either out on the town or lounging at home. Consumer Crafts has so many embroidery floss options that almost any color scheme is possible!
